Capo Coda Cavallo takes its name from the small peninsula that juts out into the sea in the form of a horse’s tail: it is a granite promontory located in northern Sardinia, in the historical region of Gallura. It spreads across the Tyrrhenian Sea to the south of the Gulf of Olbia, in the municipality of San Teodoro, in the Olbia-Tempio district. The whole peninsula is contained in the protected natural marine area called Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo and it is characterized by a succession of coves with sandy beaches and cliffs covered with lush Mediterranean vegetation with tree species. The limestone cliffs of the island of Tavolara, together with the island of Molara and the islet of Proratora, shut to the north of the bay Coda Cavallo forming a natural beauty setting. It can be reached from eastern Highway 125, turning left towards San Teodoro, two kilometers after the roadhouse Monte Petrosu.
